ld is beautiful for Pavanje Ganesh Bhat. He has
taken a fancy to antiques. Being a priest, what started as a collection of old
palm works, today has transformed into a passion for collecting antique stuffs.
The
articles which otherwise would have been dumped at a corner of the attic, find
a respectable display in Ganesh’s collection. An old cradle, a sword, old
models of locks and percussion instruments, jewellery basket of cane, a large
mortar used to make beaten rice and a big pestle used for mixing ashtabandha in
temples are there with him among other things.
He
takes utmost care to protect them. He
himself varnishes the wooden articles. Ganesh does not confine his interest to
just blindly collecting palm works. He has plans to translate the works into
Kannada.
Fortunately, for Ganesh, his better half
Jahnavi, too is equally enthusiastic about his pastime. Since her marriage to him last year, she has
contributed to enrich his collection.
Currently he has aesthetically displayed
his “old wealth” at a corner of his room. As his collection is likely to grow,
he intends to build a separate room for his treasured possessions. Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder, holds
good for Ganesh Bhat.
