price rise is inevitable in the wake of the
hike in the price of diesel and kerosene. But the question is how much.
The dependency on fuel starts right from
growing crops and it extends up to storage and transportation. As the diesel prices have gone up by around 8
per cent, the prices of fruits, vegetables and other commodities can be more by
a maximum of 8 per cent.
But there is a likelihood of unreasonable
hike in the prices of agricultural produces. The middlemen waiting in the wing
take the centre stage and the growers as usual are sidelined. For the middlemen the fuel price is a blessing
in disguise. Ultimately, it is the end
user who is left to bear the brunt of this cascading effect.
I wonder why there isn’t a regulatory
mechanism to check this arbitrary hike.
